Council discusses liquor license on Columbia, approves vacation for Fairview property

City Council spent most of its time as part of their February 8 agenda on two public hearing items. The first was discussion on whether to recommend approval of a liquor license for US Market located on 1245 Columbia Street NE to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission or OLCC.

Sullivan elected Council President/Travel Salem presents annual report

City Council convened on January 11 after a break for the Holidays. One of the first orders of business was electing a new City Council President. Former City Council President Bruce Rogers made a motion to elect Councilor T.J. Sullivan to the post and the motion was approved unanimously by the Council.

The City Council President assists the Mayor in identifying pulled items during Council meetings in addition to many other responsibilities during the year.

Business leaders and local economies around the state have a lot on the line with measures 66 and 67. Election results will become more evident as Oregon's vote by mail system wraps up on Tuesday, January 26th.

$3.2 million in BOLI Reserves Brainstormed

The Salem City Council may begin discussing what to do with $3.2 million held in a reserve account for years. The dollars were originally set aside due to a complaint filed by the Bureau of Labor and Industries against the City's Urban Renewal Agency. The dispute was in regards to wages paid to Phoenix Grand Hotel (now the Grand Hotel of Salem) construction workers and the City prevailed in the lawsuit back in September.
