Council Supports Kettle Foods Expansion, Job Creation

Salem City Council voted on Monday night, August 9, to move forward with a 3-year property tax exemption for the expansion of Kettle Foods. The company is slated to add 15 additional jobs to its over 250 person workforce in addition to a $8.4 million capital investment. President of SEDCOR Ray Burstedt commented on the importance of supporting companies like Kettle as cities and states across the country continue to offer lucrative incentives to lure companies to their local economies.

Council moves for Public Hearing on Minto-Brown Revenue

Salem City Council is gearing up to hold a public hearing on how to spend $680,000 in stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). In early 2010, the City received $680,000 from the federal government for the sale of approximately 198 acres. The land located in Minto-Brown Island Park will be restored as a floodplain easement by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). The NRCS is an arm of the United States Department of Agriculture.
