We hear about disasters around the world all the time! However, we don’t really think about it happening in our own town.

With the recent arrival of “Sandy” on the east coast which has devastated homes and businesses, it makes us realize how quickly it can happen and that it is completely out of our control.  The first thing you should be thinking about in preparation for a disaster is your safety and the people around you.  Make sure you have enough supplies and first aid training for you and your loved ones.  You can learn more about how to prepare your family and business at http://www.redcross.org/prepare.

If you are a business you should be thinking about your computer network and how safe your data is.  We recommended using a local or off site backup system at a minimum.  What most businesses don’t think about is how long it would take to be up and fully functional again should a disaster hit.  The answer is; one week, at a minimum.  Even setting up shop again with all new equipment that same day it would still take a week at a minimum. Think of how much business you will lose. It could be catastrophic.

Why?

This is a great question especially when everything is backed up and safe right? The problem is the time it takes to install all your software (and that is if you have all discs and licenses on hand) and networking the system.

Can you avoid down time?

I am glad you asked.  Yes! Opt-e-Web has “Disaster Recovery” and it’s painless. You are essentially investing in a program that will mirror your entire server’s hard drive keeping a current copy off site.  If this service has been implemented your business can be up and fully functional within 24 hours.

If you are interested in learning more about Opt-e-Web’s “Disaster Recovery” please call us at 503- 588-8778.
