"Thank you so much for 8 great years. And with that, I'm out of here," said Janet Taylor.
Mayor Anna Peterson asked Taylor to open up the January 11th City Council meeting before Peterson and other City Councilors took their oaths of office Tuesday night. Taylor received a standing ovation and applause in front of a standing room only crowd at City Council Chambers.
Newly elected Mayor Peterson will serve a 2 year term as Mayor of Salem and Rich Clausen, Laura Tesler, Dan Clem, and Sheryl Ann Thomas will serve 4 year terms as Salem City Councilors.
"I want to encourage you to keep coming back to Council," said Peterson to the full crowd. Salem's new mayor asked those in attendance to return to City Council Chambers in the future and to consider serving on City boards and commissions.
Peterson started by promoting the acronym J-O-B-S which she wants to stand for "Join Our Business Sector".
In one of the first orders of business, the new City Council appointed City Councilor Chuck Bennett as City Council President in a unanimous vote before moving into regular council business.
City Council will hold its next meeting on Monday, January 24.
